Adventures in birding and ornithology

About Me

I’m an MSc candidate at the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada, using my home county of Essex as a study system for bird migration. I study how nocturnal flight calls can be used as a proxy for population trends when analyzed longitudinally, and how sites of congregation along migratory flyways may contribute to the spread of avian influenza through environmental transmission in surface water.

Outside of school, I’m an avid birder and naturalist. I’m a voting member of the Ontario Bird Records Committee, an eBird Regional Reviewer, and an Ontario Butterfly Monitoring Scheme volunteer. I spend much of my time at the Tip of Point Pelee National Park, watching the sand, lake, sky, and trees for migrating birds, bats, and butterflies. I am very passionate about the birds of Point Pelee and Essex County, and since 2022, have been diligently tracking all bird records in the region. This culminates in an Annual Summary for Essex County, which highlights the rarest observations, local increases and declines, and notable breeding activity.

When I’m not in Essex, I’m on an adventure. I travel pretty well whenever I can, having been fortunate to visit 5 Canadian provinces and 12 countries so far. Most recently, I was in Thailand for 9 days in February-March 2026.
